Dr. Prakash Balan possesses a diverse educational background and practices in the field of interventional cardiology. He completed his medical education at The University of Texas Health Science Center, San Antonio graduating with his MD in 2004. He went on to complete his residency in internal medicine and fellowship in cardiology at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago in 2011. He then completed his interventional cardiology fellowship at The University of Texas, Houston, and then spent nearly a decade on the faculty at The University of Texas, Houston. He has now migrated to The Valley and has chosen to practice as part of Lifetime Heart & Vascular.
He practices primarily in the areas of coronary artery disease and valvular/structural heart disease. In particular, his clinical focus ranges from preventative cardiology to percutaneous coronary interventions, acute myocardial infarction care, and catheter-based therapies for valvular heart disease including transcatheter valve replacement. His goal is to deliver high-quality care to patients with a practice philosophy emphasizing listening to patients and treating each patient like a member of his own family.
Dr. Balan is married with two young sons and his personal interests include spending time with family, bicycling, fitness, and nutrition.
Dr. Balan is board-certified in cardiovascular medicine and interventional cardiology by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He is also board-certified in adult comprehensive echocardiography by the National Board of Echocardiography. Furthermore, he is a fellow of both the American College of Cardiology and the Society of Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions as well as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society.
